Lev Tretyakov, Deputy Head of City Department for Management of the Environment and Natural Resources, was quoted as saying:

–      Any human activity affects the environment, and the problem of natural resources depletion should be dealt with on different levels. Each year sees more and more Perm enterprises and organizations joining Earth Hour movement. Any city resident can contribute to the protection of the environment in our city, country or the whole planet by practicing an environmentally friendly living.

To protect the environment we should shop more for locally-produced goods with little or no packaging, use energy-efficient bulbs and do not leave electric appliances in the stand-by mode. Walking or using public transportation, domestic waste sorting, using non-disposable dishware, bottles and shopping bags also contribute to the protection of the environment. We should remember to properly dispose of batteries and mercury-containing bulbs as well as to use water efficiently and not to buy more than we need.

Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to encourage individuals, communities, households and businesses to use natural resources more efficiently.
